how-long-to-study-security+

Certification exams are no joke. If they were super easy, then everyone would have certifications in frames lining their walls have one, and they would be completely meaningless. They are meant to be an achievement that denotes that you have gone above and beyond. Certifications make you stand out from the rest of the pack. People learn at different paces and in different ways. Typically, most people take the Security+ certification exam study for 30 to 45 days. Let’s discuss what and how long to study for Security+ certification exam.

Training Classes

The most comprehensive and effective way to prepare for certification is to enroll in a training program. There is usually some cost associated with a certification class, but the training is aimed at explicitly passing this test. You will be directly exposed to the material that will be on the test, and the questions on the practice exams will be structured the same way they will be presented on the exam.  Since the exams are changed regularly to keep them current on changing technology, the training is kept current. Some of the online study materials can be out of date. The old adage, “You get what you pay for” usually applies to study materials just like it does to most other things.

Free Study Materials

As stated above, there are free online study materials and practice exams. Just make sure that they are kept current by finding out the last time they were updated. The best way to identify weak points in a body of knowledge is to test early and often. Since the materials are free, then why not use them to supplement other content. Review the material in small increments and then immediately take any available practice exams. This will identify areas where more study will be required.

Study Guides

Books and study guides are readily available online. They are usually pretty good and include more than just information that will be on the test. They go over strategies for interpreting questions and often include sample exams. Some even provide access to special online libraries that are frequently updated and expand the amount of material you can access after the book has been published.

Devise a Plan

Set a goal to take the exam within a specified time period. 30 to 45 days is a reasonable timeframe if you are already familiar with the material on the exam. If someone has zero IT experience, then 60 days might be more appropriate. The exam is segmented into different domains. Try to master the different domains according to their percentage of the content and divide them into sections that can be studied inside the timeframe. It might even be helpful to put the study plan in a timeline if project management experience is in play. Again, test early and often to ascertain the absorption of the material.

The best way to participate in a certification training class is to enroll in a training program with a reputable company such as ONLC. Why not contact us today to find out how to begin the certification process?
